Brazilian gaming studios

The games market is expanding steadily in the world, and Brazil has become an attractive market for game development companies. As the growth of this market has flattened in Europe and in the USA, for instance, companies have started to invest more in Brazil.

The world’s games market grows 15-20 percent and accounts for USD 20 billion yearly. The Brazilian market grows in average 26 percent yearly. One of the reasons is that games produced locally are cheaper, what helps to boost sales. The Brazilian games market has a rather domestic focus, but the country is also a gateway to other Latin American countries.

The infograph by NewZoo points Latin America and Asia-Pacific as the regions with largest growth rates in the global games market, both at 11 percent/year.

In addition to that, translation and dubbing of games and having them launched simultaneously with the international market help making those games more attractive to the local population. Broadband internet access and online games are also factors that contribute to this market growth.

The Brazilian games market is very fragmented. There are a few large companies, whilst small businesses are numerous. The majority of the companies is concentrated in the States of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Rio de Janeiro. Many game companies are also based in Porto Digital, the ICT cluster based in Recife, State of Pernambuco.

The Brazilian Game Developers Association, Abragames, was founded in 2004 and represents Brazilian studios developing games in various platforms such as PC, consoles, mobile phones and Internet.
