HBO presents Pyramiden, a Soviet settlement abandoned in time

The next destination that HBO will take you to is as far North in the Norwegian territory as you can imagine. Yes, we are talking about Svalbard, the Norwegian archipelago located in the Arctic Circle. We travelled to Pyramiden, a former Soviet settlement and coal mining community on the archipelago.

This settlement was abandoned in 1998, years after the Soviet Union collapsed. Due to its isolation and climate, all buildings are found the same way as they were left and represent therefore an astonishing scenario.

Did you know that you must take off your shoes when entering public buildings and facilities in Svalbard, such as museums, hotels and galleries? Some will even provide you indoor shoes. This part of the documentary will tell you why.

This is the second of a series of six short-length videos produced by HBO Latin America, which was a project in cooperation with Innovation Norway. Enjoy!
